Excersice and anxiety

We've all heard of -- and experienced -- the stress-busting effects of working out. But now, a new study suggests those effects may last even after we've hopped off the treadmill.
A new study from the University of Maryland School of Public Health shows that we can still reap the anxiety-relieving effects of exercise after the exercise has been completed.
"We found that exercise helps to buffer the effects of emotional exposure," study researcher J. Carson Smith, an assistant professor in the university's department of kinesiology, said in a statement. "If you exercise, you'll not only reduce your anxiety, but you'll be better able to maintain that reduced anxiety when confronted with emotional events."
The Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise study included 37 healthy young adults. On one day, they had 30 minutes to just sit and rest, after which they viewed 90 minutes worth of images -- ranging from pleasant, to unpleasant, to just neutral. The researchers measured their anxiety levels before they rested, after they rested, and then after they viewed the images.
Then, the next day, the researchers had the study participants do 30 minutes of moderate exercise before viewing the images. Their anxiety levels were measured just like the day before -- before the exercise, after the exercise, and after viewing the images.
The researchers found that after both the 30 minutes of rest and the 30 minutes of exercise, anxiety levels were successfully lowered. But after viewing the images, researchers found that only the exercise helped to keep anxiety levels down. When the study participants had only rested, their anxiety levels went right back up to their original levels.

Inflammationstilstand, Inflammation
I dag vil lægemiddelsindustrien at vi spiser mere og mere medicin, vi bliver sygere og sygere og får mere og mere bivirkninger. Det synes jeg er helt sindssygt når det findes naturlige middel som har vokset i vores natur i flere tusind år. Udseende og voksestederÆgte Venustorn (Harpagophytum procumbens) er en krybende, flerårig plante med oprindelse i Sydafrika. Den har et forgrenet rodnet med sekundære rødder, de såkaldte rodknolde, som vokser ud fra hovedrødderne.

Disse glykosider er harpagosid og små mængder harpagid. Desuden indeholder den procumbid og fenole glykosider og sukkerarter m.m.
Mere end 500.000 danskere har en smertefuld hverdag med sygdomme, der er koblet til bevægeapparatet. Sædvanligvis ligger der degenerative forandringer til grund, men smerterne kan også optræde ganske pludseligt uden påviselig årsag eller sættes i forbindelse med fænomener som kulde og ændringer i vejrliget.

Undgå allergi, influenza och styrk ditt immunförsvar
Jag vill berätta om en produkt jag har använt i snart 2 år, den heter Immiflex och innehåller Beta glucan, utvunnet av en sorts svamp och är en patenterad produkt.

Immiflex fungerar på det sätt att det aktiverar immuncellerna så att man får en snabbare respons på en infektion. Immiflex blir upptäckt av M-cellerna i slemhinnan i tunntarmen som "slussar" beta glucanerna vidare till macrofagerna (vitablodkroppar-immunceller) i blodet som så "presenterar" dem för neutrofilerna-dom primära immun-cellerna. Fördelarna med att ha ett "prima" immunförsvar är att det reagerar snabbare mot patogener (bakterier, virus).
Studier visar att dom som åt immiflex regelbundet hade inga sjukdagar/frånvaro från arbetet medans dom i kontroll gruppen hade 1.38 sjukdagar. Immiflex har inga bivärkningar och är säkert att äta varje dag. Beta glucaner är non-toxic. (inte giftiga).
Immiflex har också anti-allergi funktion.

It is when I get sms´s from my clients like this I really love my job and it makes me feel good that I´ve helped another person being able to walk or sit again without pain, and so that they can get back into training and living a normal life again:

Morfin foods
Please check this link out for better understanding what effect some foods has on our health, mental as physical.
Just wanted to add that I don´t agree with him about the pasta thing he talks about, and I do think that some people need animal protein, we are all built different and we have different needs as our biochemistry is totally different. But anyways, morfin peptides are to blame for many "diseases" like the symptom of autism that doctors from Norway have done studies on for over 10 years now, and all of the people that got the diagnose "autism" had high levels of morfinpeptides in their urin.
Morfin peptides are protein molecules from gluten (wheat) and casein (milkprotein) that the body cannot break down to smaller aminoacidspeptides.(e.g. due to lack of enzyms). The MP can cross the brain/blood barrier and cause havoc in the brain becasue they look just like the molecules in our own central nervoussystem- the endorphines, so the MP fits to the morfin- or opiode receptors in our brain and cause symptoms like ADHA, Austism, OCD, DAMP, NLD, depression, psycosis, scizofrenia, migrane and eating disorders.

Hørfrø, naturens egen medicin
Brug 1-2 spsk økologisk hørfrø i et glas med vand, det skal stå og trække over natten, så drikker man den dannede gelé.
Hørfrø har fundets på jorden i mange mange år, og her forneden er en artikel jeg fandt som forklarer det hele så godt, så jeg syntes ikke jeg behøver forklare det hele selv/ Sofie =)

Hørfrø, linfrø
Oversigt Hør er en etårig plante, som menes at stamme fra Egypten. Den er blevet dyrket verden over gennem så mange århundreder, at dens geografiske oprindelse fortaber sig i det uvisse.
De hørfrø, der sælges i Europa, kommer fra Argentina, Marokko, Tyrkiet, Indien og flere andre lande. De frø, der anvendes i den kinesiske medicin, produceres primært i Indre Mongoliet og provinserne Heilongjiang, Liaoning og Jilin, mens den indiske medicin i stor udstrækning er baseret på hørfrø, der er dyrket i landet, primært i provinserne Bengalen og Bihar og Unionsterritorierne.
Hørfrø er en af de planter, der længst er dyrket over hele verden. Man har fundet hørfrø og tøj vævet af hør i ægyptiske gravkamre, og Bibelen nævner i 2. Mosebog, kap. 28, at de jødiske ypperstepræster bar tøj, der var fremstillet af hør.
Vore dages behandlingsmæssige brug af hørplanten i både Asien, Europa og Nordamerika kan spores tilbage til den gamle romerske medicin og formentlig også tilbage til de gamle grækere og egyptere. Plinius den Ældre (ca. 23-79 e. Kr.) opremser 30 medikamenter, der alle er baseret på hørfrø, bl.a. oral indtagelse som et mildt afførende stof og topisk anvendelse som omslag mod lokale betændelsestilstande.
I kinesiske farmakopeer angives hørfrø stadig officielt som et middel mod forstoppelse og tør, kløende hud. I den ayurvediske medicin anerkendes hørfrø specifikt til udvortes brug som omslag mod bylder og indvortes som et lindrende og afførende middel. Hørfrø-omslag anvendes mod betændelsestilstande, bylder og smertelindring i traditionel amerikansk medicin og som et blødgørende stof i moderne veterinærmedicin.
I Tyskland anvendes hørfrøene oftest som afførende middel - enten hele eller friskknuste sammen med vand. Desuden kan man tilberede opslæmninger til brug ved lindring. Udvortes anvendes hørfrø som et fugtigt-varmt kataplasma, kompres eller omslag til at mindske inflammationstilstande. I USA anvendes hørfrøene til samme formål, men amerikanske forbrugere tilsætter oftere frøene som en ingrediens i en sund kost eller som et nutraceutisk produkt (f.eks. i bagværk, brød, chokoladebarer, morgenmadsprodukter osv.).
De moderne anvendelsesområder er understøttet af hørfrøets flere tusind år lange historie med klinisk anvendelse i veletablerede, traditionelle medicinske retninger, af reagensglas- og dyreforsøg, undersøgelser af næringssammensætning og kostmæssig værdi samt adskillige kliniske forsøg på mennesker.
Nye kliniske forsøg tyder på, hørfrøet har et betydeligt potentiale ud over de nuværende, veldokumenterede anvendelsesområder. Forsøg med hørfrø-præparater har vist, at frøet
Tre dyreforsøg har vist, at tilsætning af hørfrø til kosten kan reducere antallet af kræftsvulster hos rotter.
Den forebyggende virkning skyldes tilsyneladende hørfrøets høje indhold af lignaner. Også andre videnskabelige forsøg har undersøgt virkningen af lignaner (secoisolariciresinol diglucoside) på svulstvæksten.
Fra et mindre, foreløbige forsøg rapporteres, at tilskud af hørfrø måske kan bremse udviklingen af nyresygdom i forbindelse med lupus. Ni patienter med lupus nephritis blev rekrutteret til forsøget, og heraf gennemførte de otte.
Efter at have foretaget målinger ved forsøgets start gav forskerne deltagerne 15,30 og 45 g hørfrø om dagen med fire ugers intervaller efterfulgt af en fem ugers udvaskningsperiode. Man målte derefter overholdelse af forsøgsprogrammet, sygdomsaktivitet, blodtryk, fedtindhold i plasma, rheologi (elasticitet, plasticitet og viskositet), blodpladesammenklumpning fremkaldt af blodpladeaktiverende faktorer, nyrefunktion og serum-immunologi.
Dosen på 30 gram hørfrø fungerede bedst - her kunne man konstatere en statistisk signifikant reduktion i blodets samlede kolesterolindhold og indholdet af LDL-kolesterol samt blodets viskositet. Alle deltagere kunne tåle de 30 gram dagligt, og man fastslog, at denne dosis havde en gavnlig indvirkning på nyrefunktionen samt på de inflammatoriske og åreforkalkningsfremmende mekanismer, der er på spil ved udviklingen af lupus nephritis.
Ved et forsøg med tre måneders fodring undersøgte forskerne, om man kunne reducere risikoen for åreforkalkning ved at give tilskud af hørfrø. Forskerne iagttog virkningen af et hørfrøtilskud bestående af tre skiver brød med hørfrø og 15 g knust hørfrø på serumindholdet af fedtstoffer hos 15 personer med øget fedtindhold som følge af lang tids indtagelse af E-vitamin (800 I.E. pr. dag).
Det samlede kolesterolindhold og LDL-indholdet i serum ændrede sig ikke under indtagelsen af hørfrø. Blodpladesammenklumpning stimuleret af thrombin blev mindsket ved indtagelse af tilskuddet. Omfanget af iltningen af serumfedtstofferne faldt signifikant i løbet af udvaskningsperioden.
Et andet forsøg analyserede næringsværdier hos mennesker, der spiser hørfrø med et højt indhold af alfa-linolensyre. Raske kvinder indtog testmåltider indeholdende 50 g knust, rå hørfrø om dagen i fire uger, hvilket udgjorde 12-13% af energiindtaget (24-25 g pr. 100 g samlet fedt).
Forskerne konkluderede, at op mod 50 g hørfrø med et højt indhold af alfa-linolensyre er acceptabelt, sikkert og formentlig sundhedsfremmende hos mennesker, fordi det øger indholdet af langkædede omega-3 fedtsyrer i plasma og erythrocytter og mindsker glucosereaktionen efter et måltid. Hørfrøtilskuddet var desuden i stand til at sænke det samlede serumindhold af kolesterol med 9% og indholdet af LDL-kolesterol med 18%.
Hørfrø er for nuværende ikke defineret i forhold til farmakopé-værdier på basis af en specifik kemisk sammensætning, men derimod på basis af en række identitets- og kvalitetsprøver, bl.a. organoleptisk vurdering, makroskopisk og mikroskopisk autenticering og en række kvantitative standarder. Som eksempel kan nævnes, at hørfrøets svulmeindeks ikke må ligge under 4 for hele frøet og 4,5 for det pulveriserede frø.
Beskrivelse Hørfrø består af det tørrede, modne frø af en række variationer af Linum usitatissium L. [af hørfamilien] samt præparater i effektive doseringer. De dyrkede varieteter Vav. og Ell. kan også anvendes til de indikationer, der er omtalt i denne monograf. Frøene indeholder: Fibre (hemicellulose, cellulose og lignin), fedtholdige olier med 52-76% linolensyreestere, albumin, linustatin og linamarin.
Kemi og farmakologi Hørfrø indeholder:
Kommission E har rapporteret om en af førende virkning, som skyldes volumenforøgelsen og den deraf følgende igangsætning af tarmperistaltikken på grund af strækreflekser. Man har desuden observeret en beskyttende indvirkning på slimlaget på grund af hørfrøets evne til at lægge sig på tarmvæggens overflade.
British Herbal Pharmacopoeia skriver, at hørfrøet virker som et afføringsdannende laksativ og lindrende middel. En reduktion i transittiden og en forøgelse af afføringens vægt hos patienter, der lider af forstoppelse, er blevet påvist ved to multicenterforsøg. Hørfrøet binder sig til vand og svulmer op, så der dannes en lindrende gel i tarmen, hvorved afføringen blødgøres, og dens volumen bliver forøget.
I en nyligt offentliggjort metaanalyse af en række kliniske forsøg angiver forskerne hørfrøets store indhold af alfa-linolensyre, en essentiel fedtsyre, og lignanstoffet secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) som værende kræfthæmmende og sundhedsfremmende i forbindelse med behandling af systemisk lupus erythematosis (SLE), hyperlipidæmi (forøget mængde fedtstof i blodet) og muligvis også malaria og slidgigt.
Hørfrø indeholder mere (mellem 75 og 800 gange så meget) af det sundhedsfremmende plantestof SDG sammenlignet med andre fødevarekilder.
Anvendelsesområder Kommission E har godkendt hørfrø til indvortes brug mod forstoppelse, ved problemer med en tyktarm, der er ødelagt af misbrug af afføringsmidler, irritabel tyktarm, udposninger på tarmene og som slimdanner ved mavekatar og tarmkatar. Til udvortes brug er hørfrøet godkendt til omslag ved lokale betændelsestilstande.
Ifølge ESCOP kan hørfrø anvendes indvortes mod forstoppelse, irritabel tyktarm, udposninger og til symptomatisk, kortvarig behandling af mavekatar og tarmkatar og udvortes mod smertende hudbetændelser.
German Standard License for hele eller friskknuste hørfrø betegner frøet som afføringsmiddel til behandling af forstoppelse og funktionelle tarmproblemer (irritabel tyktarm) og som et lindrende middel, der kan medvirke til behandling af betændelsestilstande i mave-/tarmsystemet.
Merck Index omtaler udvortes brug som blødgørende middel. Frøets slimindhold gør, at man kan anvende det på samme måde som loppefrø - dvs. som yderligere behandling af smerter i forbindelse med tyktarmsbetændelse med kramper.
Populært anvendes hørfrø inden for urtemedicinen mod hoste, ondt i halsen, åreforkalkning og slidgigt og udvortes mod bylder, sår og - blandet med gule sennepsfrø - som et omslag ved brystsygdomme.
Kontraindikationer Tarmslyng (uanset hvordan sygdommen er opstået).
Bivirkninger Hvis anvisningerne overholdes - og det gælder specielt indtagelsen af tilstrækkelige mængder væske sammen med hørfrøene (1:10) - er der ingen kendte bivirkninger.
Anvendelse under graviditet og amning Ingen kendte begrænsninger.
Interaktion med medicinske præparater
Som det gælder for alle slimdannende stoffer, kan optagelsen af andre medicinske præparater blive påvirket i negativ retning.
Dosering og indgivelse Indvortes Medmindre andet er angivet: Som frø og som knækkede eller groftknuste frø, hvor kun den yderste skal og slimhindedannende epidermis beskadiges; som hørfrøopslæmmet drik (vælling) og i sammensatte lægemidler.
Knækkede eller hele frø: 1 spsk. hele eller 'knækkede' frø ( knuste) med 150 ml væske 2-3 gange pr. dag (1 spsk. = 10 g frø).
Slimdannende vælling: Sæt 2-3 spsk. knuste hørfrø i 200-300 ml vand og si efter 30 minutter.
Udvortes Medmindre andet er angivet: Som hørfrømel eller presset hørfrø.
Kataplasma: En halvfast pasta indeholdende 30-50 g hørfrømel til et fugtigt-varmt omslag direkte på huden - omslaget anvendes som irritationshæmmer, der trækker blod til hudoverfladen for at fjerne dybtliggende inflammationstilstande. Bemærk: Hørfrømel blandes traditionelt med sennepsfrøpulver til dette formål.
Kompres eller varmt omslag: Gennemvæd et klæde med en varm, halvfast opløsning indeholdende 30-50 g hørfrømel. Fold klædet og læg det fast på som et fugtigt-varmt omslag direkte på huden til lindring af smerte eller betændelse.

Hørfrø har fundets på jorden i mange mange år, og her forneden er en artikel jeg fandt som forklarer det hele så godt, så jeg syntes ikke jeg behøver forklare det hele selv/ Sofie =)
Hørfrø - hele og knuste: vejen til sundhed

Oversigt Hør er en etårig plante, som menes at stamme fra Egypten. Den er blevet dyrket verden over gennem så mange århundreder, at dens geografiske oprindelse fortaber sig i det uvisse.
De hørfrø, der sælges i Europa, kommer fra Argentina, Marokko, Tyrkiet, Indien og flere andre lande. De frø, der anvendes i den kinesiske medicin, produceres primært i Indre Mongoliet og provinserne Heilongjiang, Liaoning og Jilin, mens den indiske medicin i stor udstrækning er baseret på hørfrø, der er dyrket i landet, primært i provinserne Bengalen og Bihar og Unionsterritorierne.
Hørfrø er en af de planter, der længst er dyrket over hele verden. Man har fundet hørfrø og tøj vævet af hør i ægyptiske gravkamre, og Bibelen nævner i 2. Mosebog, kap. 28, at de jødiske ypperstepræster bar tøj, der var fremstillet af hør.
Vore dages behandlingsmæssige brug af hørplanten i både Asien, Europa og Nordamerika kan spores tilbage til den gamle romerske medicin og formentlig også tilbage til de gamle grækere og egyptere. Plinius den Ældre (ca. 23-79 e. Kr.) opremser 30 medikamenter, der alle er baseret på hørfrø, bl.a. oral indtagelse som et mildt afførende stof og topisk anvendelse som omslag mod lokale betændelsestilstande.
I kinesiske farmakopeer angives hørfrø stadig officielt som et middel mod forstoppelse og tør, kløende hud. I den ayurvediske medicin anerkendes hørfrø specifikt til udvortes brug som omslag mod bylder og indvortes som et lindrende og afførende middel. Hørfrø-omslag anvendes mod betændelsestilstande, bylder og smertelindring i traditionel amerikansk medicin og som et blødgørende stof i moderne veterinærmedicin.
I Tyskland anvendes hørfrøene oftest som afførende middel - enten hele eller friskknuste sammen med vand. Desuden kan man tilberede opslæmninger til brug ved lindring. Udvortes anvendes hørfrø som et fugtigt-varmt kataplasma, kompres eller omslag til at mindske inflammationstilstande. I USA anvendes hørfrøene til samme formål, men amerikanske forbrugere tilsætter oftere frøene som en ingrediens i en sund kost eller som et nutraceutisk produkt (f.eks. i bagværk, brød, chokoladebarer, morgenmadsprodukter osv.).
De moderne anvendelsesområder er understøttet af hørfrøets flere tusind år lange historie med klinisk anvendelse i veletablerede, traditionelle medicinske retninger, af reagensglas- og dyreforsøg, undersøgelser af næringssammensætning og kostmæssig værdi samt adskillige kliniske forsøg på mennesker.
Nye kliniske forsøg tyder på, hørfrøet har et betydeligt potentiale ud over de nuværende, veldokumenterede anvendelsesområder. Forsøg med hørfrø-præparater har vist, at frøet

virker kræfthæmmende
- er i stand til at behandle lupus nephritis (en nyresygdom)
- reducerer risikoen for åreforkalkning hos personer med et forøget fedtindhold i blodet og forbedrer karfunktionen hos svært overvægtige,
- positivt påvirker blodpladernes sammensætning og funktion
- medvirker til at sikre et godt helbred.
Tre dyreforsøg har vist, at tilsætning af hørfrø til kosten kan reducere antallet af kræftsvulster hos rotter.

I det første forsøg fik forsøgsdyrene 5 eller 10% hørfrømel som et tilskud til en kost med et højt fedtindhold, og forskerne kunne påvise en reduktion af brystvævet i epithelcellerne og i omfan- get af celleforandringer (59-66%).
- I det andet forsøg fik forsøgsdyrene indsprøjtet et kræftfremkaldende stof (7, 12-dimetylbenz(a)anthracen), inden de fik en fedtholdig kost blandet med 5% hørfrømel. Størrelsen på kræftsvulsterne blev reduceret med 67%.
- I det tredje forsøg gav man en enkelt indsprøjtning med det kræftfremkaldende stof azoxymetan og en kost med 5 og 10% hørfrømel - og her kunne man iagttage en 50% reduktion i antallet af tilfælde af tyktarmskræft.
Den forebyggende virkning skyldes tilsyneladende hørfrøets høje indhold af lignaner. Også andre videnskabelige forsøg har undersøgt virkningen af lignaner (secoisolariciresinol diglucoside) på svulstvæksten.
Fra et mindre, foreløbige forsøg rapporteres, at tilskud af hørfrø måske kan bremse udviklingen af nyresygdom i forbindelse med lupus. Ni patienter med lupus nephritis blev rekrutteret til forsøget, og heraf gennemførte de otte.
Efter at have foretaget målinger ved forsøgets start gav forskerne deltagerne 15,30 og 45 g hørfrø om dagen med fire ugers intervaller efterfulgt af en fem ugers udvaskningsperiode. Man målte derefter overholdelse af forsøgsprogrammet, sygdomsaktivitet, blodtryk, fedtindhold i plasma, rheologi (elasticitet, plasticitet og viskositet), blodpladesammenklumpning fremkaldt af blodpladeaktiverende faktorer, nyrefunktion og serum-immunologi.
Dosen på 30 gram hørfrø fungerede bedst - her kunne man konstatere en statistisk signifikant reduktion i blodets samlede kolesterolindhold og indholdet af LDL-kolesterol samt blodets viskositet. Alle deltagere kunne tåle de 30 gram dagligt, og man fastslog, at denne dosis havde en gavnlig indvirkning på nyrefunktionen samt på de inflammatoriske og åreforkalkningsfremmende mekanismer, der er på spil ved udviklingen af lupus nephritis.
Ved et forsøg med tre måneders fodring undersøgte forskerne, om man kunne reducere risikoen for åreforkalkning ved at give tilskud af hørfrø. Forskerne iagttog virkningen af et hørfrøtilskud bestående af tre skiver brød med hørfrø og 15 g knust hørfrø på serumindholdet af fedtstoffer hos 15 personer med øget fedtindhold som følge af lang tids indtagelse af E-vitamin (800 I.E. pr. dag).
Det samlede kolesterolindhold og LDL-indholdet i serum ændrede sig ikke under indtagelsen af hørfrø. Blodpladesammenklumpning stimuleret af thrombin blev mindsket ved indtagelse af tilskuddet. Omfanget af iltningen af serumfedtstofferne faldt signifikant i løbet af udvaskningsperioden.
Et andet forsøg analyserede næringsværdier hos mennesker, der spiser hørfrø med et højt indhold af alfa-linolensyre. Raske kvinder indtog testmåltider indeholdende 50 g knust, rå hørfrø om dagen i fire uger, hvilket udgjorde 12-13% af energiindtaget (24-25 g pr. 100 g samlet fedt).
Forskerne konkluderede, at op mod 50 g hørfrø med et højt indhold af alfa-linolensyre er acceptabelt, sikkert og formentlig sundhedsfremmende hos mennesker, fordi det øger indholdet af langkædede omega-3 fedtsyrer i plasma og erythrocytter og mindsker glucosereaktionen efter et måltid. Hørfrøtilskuddet var desuden i stand til at sænke det samlede serumindhold af kolesterol med 9% og indholdet af LDL-kolesterol med 18%.
Hørfrø er for nuværende ikke defineret i forhold til farmakopé-værdier på basis af en specifik kemisk sammensætning, men derimod på basis af en række identitets- og kvalitetsprøver, bl.a. organoleptisk vurdering, makroskopisk og mikroskopisk autenticering og en række kvantitative standarder. Som eksempel kan nævnes, at hørfrøets svulmeindeks ikke må ligge under 4 for hele frøet og 4,5 for det pulveriserede frø.
Beskrivelse Hørfrø består af det tørrede, modne frø af en række variationer af Linum usitatissium L. [af hørfamilien] samt præparater i effektive doseringer. De dyrkede varieteter Vav. og Ell. kan også anvendes til de indikationer, der er omtalt i denne monograf. Frøene indeholder: Fibre (hemicellulose, cellulose og lignin), fedtholdige olier med 52-76% linolensyreestere, albumin, linustatin og linamarin.
Kemi og farmakologi Hørfrø indeholder:
- faste olier (30-45%)
- triglycerider i form af linolen-, linol-, olein-, stearin-, palmitin- og myristinsyre
- proteiner (20-25%)
- planteslim (3-10%), sammensat af neutrale og syreholdige polysakkarider, som efter hydrolyse giver: galaktose (8-10%), arabinose (9-12%), rhamnose (13-29%), xylose (25-27%) og galakturon- og mannuron-syre (ca. 30%)
- steroler og triterpener (kolesterol, campesterol, stigmasterol og sitosterol)
- cyanogene glycosider (0,1-1,5%), primært linustatin og neolinustatin
- monoglycosiderne linamarin og lotaustralin
- secoisolariciresinol glycosid (et forstadie til lignaner hos pattedyr).
Kommission E har rapporteret om en af førende virkning, som skyldes volumenforøgelsen og den deraf følgende igangsætning af tarmperistaltikken på grund af strækreflekser. Man har desuden observeret en beskyttende indvirkning på slimlaget på grund af hørfrøets evne til at lægge sig på tarmvæggens overflade.
British Herbal Pharmacopoeia skriver, at hørfrøet virker som et afføringsdannende laksativ og lindrende middel. En reduktion i transittiden og en forøgelse af afføringens vægt hos patienter, der lider af forstoppelse, er blevet påvist ved to multicenterforsøg. Hørfrøet binder sig til vand og svulmer op, så der dannes en lindrende gel i tarmen, hvorved afføringen blødgøres, og dens volumen bliver forøget.
I en nyligt offentliggjort metaanalyse af en række kliniske forsøg angiver forskerne hørfrøets store indhold af alfa-linolensyre, en essentiel fedtsyre, og lignanstoffet secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) som værende kræfthæmmende og sundhedsfremmende i forbindelse med behandling af systemisk lupus erythematosis (SLE), hyperlipidæmi (forøget mængde fedtstof i blodet) og muligvis også malaria og slidgigt.
Hørfrø indeholder mere (mellem 75 og 800 gange så meget) af det sundhedsfremmende plantestof SDG sammenlignet med andre fødevarekilder.
Anvendelsesområder Kommission E har godkendt hørfrø til indvortes brug mod forstoppelse, ved problemer med en tyktarm, der er ødelagt af misbrug af afføringsmidler, irritabel tyktarm, udposninger på tarmene og som slimdanner ved mavekatar og tarmkatar. Til udvortes brug er hørfrøet godkendt til omslag ved lokale betændelsestilstande.
Ifølge ESCOP kan hørfrø anvendes indvortes mod forstoppelse, irritabel tyktarm, udposninger og til symptomatisk, kortvarig behandling af mavekatar og tarmkatar og udvortes mod smertende hudbetændelser.

We do alot of research in my school and my teacher is one of the board members in a 3 year long study in the EU on health related benefits vs. dangers of soy. But it´s not published just yet, so for now you can read this articel from Dr Weil.
I'm aware of Internet paranoia on the subject of soy and the contention that only fermented soy is safe to consume. That is simply not true. Some of the best forms of soy - edamame, tofu and soy nuts - are unfermented and are much more likely to help you than hurt you.

This protection may reduce the effects of excess estrogen exposure from such external sources as meats and dairy products from hormone-treated cows as well as artificial chemicals and industrial pollutants that act as foreign estrogens. Japanese women whose diets contain a lot of soy foods have only one-fifth the rate of breast cancer that occurs among Western women.
- Thyroid Problems: Excess consumption of soy can affect thyroid function, but only if you have a thyroid disorder to begin with or if you're not getting enough iodine in your diet (a rare deficiency in the United States). If you take medication for hypothyroidism (low thyroid), and are concerned about the effect of eating two daily servings of soy, have your thyroid levels checked regularly.
- Mineral absorption: The idea that substances in soy called phytates block absorption of essential minerals is also in circulation, but there is no scientific data suggesting that soy consumption leads to mineral deficiency in humans.

Curcumin, the main component in the spice turmeric used in curry, suppresses a cell signaling pathway that drives the growth of head and neck cancer, according to a pilot study using human saliva by researchers at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The inhibition of the cell signaling pathway that drives the growth of these cancers also reduced a number of pro-inflammatory cytokines, or signaling molecules, in the saliva that promote cancer growth, said Dr. Marilene Wang, a professor of head and neck surgery, senior author of the study and a Jonsson Cancer Center researcher.
“This study shows that curcumin can work in the mouths of patients with head and neck malignancies and reduce activities that promote cancer growth,” Wang said. “And it not only affected the cancer by inhibiting a critical cell signaling pathway, it also affected the saliva itself by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines within the saliva.”
The study appears Sept. 15 in Clinical Cancer Research, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Association of Cancer Research.
Turmeric is a naturally occurring spice widely used in South Asian and Middle Eastern cooking and has long been known to have medicinal properties, attributed to its anti-inflammatory effects. Previous studies have shown it can suppress the growth of certain cancers. In India, women for years have been using turmeric as an anti-aging agent rubbed into their skin, to treat cramps during menstruation and as a poultice on the skin to promote wound healing.
A 2005 study by Wang and her team first showed that curcumin suppressed the growth of head and neck cancer, first in cells and then in mouse models. In the animal studies, the curcumin was applied directly onto the tumors in paste form. In a 2010 study, also done in cells and in mouse models, the research team found that the curcumin suppressed head and neck cancer growth by regulating cell cycling, said scientist Eri Srivatsan, an adjunct professor of surgery, article author and a Jonsson Cancer Center researcher who, along with Wang, has been studying curcumin and its anti-cancer properties for seven years.
The curcumin binds to and prevents an enzyme known as IKK, an inhibitor of kappa β kinase, from activating a transcription factor called nuclear factor kappa β (NFκβ), which promotes cancer growth.
In this study, 21 patients with head and neck cancers gave samples of their saliva before and after chewing two curcumin tablets totaling 1,000 milligrams. One hour later, another sample of saliva was taken and proteins were extracted and IKKβ kinase activity measured. Thirteen subjects with tooth decay and five healthy subjects were used as controls, Wang said.
Eating the curcumin, Wang said, put it in contact not just with the cancer but also with the saliva, and the study found it reduced the level of cancer enhancing cytokines.
An independent lab in Maryland was sent blind samples and confirmed the results — the pro-inflammatory cytokines in the saliva that help feed the cancer were reduced in the patients that had chewed the curcumin and the cell signaling pathway driving cancer growth was inhibited, Wang said.
“The curcumin had a significant inhibitory effect, blocking two different drivers of head and neck cancer growth,” Wang said. “We believe curcumin could be combined with other treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation to treat head and neck cancer. It also could perhaps be given to patients at high risk for developing head and neck cancers — smokers, those who chew tobacco and people with the HPV virus — as well as to patients with previous oral cancers to fight recurrence.”
The curcumin was well tolerated by the patients and resulted in no toxic effects. The biggest problem was their mouths and teeth turned bright yellow.
“Curcumin inhibited IKKβ kinase activity in the saliva of head and neck cancer patients and this inhibition correlated with reduced expression of a number of cytokines,” the study states. “IKKβ kinase could be a useful biomarker for detecting the effects of curcumin in head and neck cancer.”
To be effective in fighting cancer, the curcumin must be used in supplement form. Although turmeric is used in cooking, the amount of curcumin needed to produce a clinical response is much larger. Expecting a positive effect through eating foods spiced with turmeric is not realistic, Wang said.
The next step for Wang and her team is to treat patients with curcumin for longer periods of time to see if the inhibitory effects can be increased. They plan to treat cancer patients scheduled for surgery for a few weeks prior to their procedure. They’ll take a biopsy before the curcumin is started and then at the time of surgery and analyze the tissue to look for differences.
“There’s potential here for the development of curcumin as an adjuvant treatment for cancer,” Wang said. “It’s not toxic, well tolerated, cheap and easily obtained in any health food store. While this is a promising pilot study, it’s important to expand our work to more patients to confirm our findings.”

This is just one of a number of studies showing curcumin’s positive effect on cancer tumors. Curcumin is also one of the most helpful compounds for the liver, and is highly anti-inflammatory as well. It’s also wonderful for pain, particularly pain from inflammation (i.e. arthritis, joint pain, etc.)
I think we’ll see more and more studies like this showing the enormous benefits of this supplement. Curcumin is the main reason i gave turmeric– which is the spice in which curcumin is found– a “Star” in my book, “The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth“. I use it on vegetables, eggs, and all sorts of other dishes. And I take the supplement on a daily basis.
